2006 Night Of The Living Deadlift Report:

More details to come. Dave Langfellow returned to the platform. Dave served our country overseas for a while, returned safely and got back in competition shape. In the Submasters 242 class he pulled a record 580 and then went on to break that with a solid 605! He wasn't done yet! He'd been practicing his Hack Dead form a bit and it paid off. He opened with a submaster record 480 like it was nothing. Jumped up to an easy 525. Another good lift. Then on to 560 to break the Open record. This went with room to spare. Question was how much? After much debate and serious doubt of some spectators the bar was loaded to 600. A slow start but then very smoothly and strong he locked the lift out - becoming only the second person to Hack Dead 600. Looks like he has room for quite a bit more! He may be the only man that can Hack Dead more than his normal Dead! Maybe well call him Reverse Superman! Great job - 7 for 7 day. Brenda Langfellow also was on hand as the "sherpa" - she obviously did a great job. Her work kept her from competiting but hopefully she'll be back on the platform in the spring. Jake was looking slim being a light 240er (236). He set records in One Hand Clean and Jerk, Cheat Curl, One Finger deadlift and Strict Curl. Labelle also made an appearance and set some records. I don't have exact info yet. Ricker came to try out beltless conventional deads. 600 opener went well. Jump to 635 also went well for a new masters SHW record. A lose belt and attempt at 650 exploded off the floor well but drifted out of grove halfway up before losing some skin and grip.

2006 Worlds Report:

2006 marks the 10 year anniversary of OLSA. Some amazing lifts at this year's World's. Records fell in more than a dozen lifts and very old some open records feel. Some highlights:

  • New comer, UFC and motorcross competitor Jesse Price set a new strict curl record of 150lbs in the 240 class. This ranks 2nd all time. He also took both Bench and Incline for reps on bodyweight and became only the 3rd person to do 120's on 1 Arm Dumbbell Clean & Press

  • Gary Grahn moves into a second place tie all time for the 1 Hand DeadLift with a 325 - talk about a grip!!!

  • Brian Edgcomb makes the trip from Illinois again and sets 9 new records, breaking some on bodyweight!

  • Chuck Ball moves into the 65-59 class and set new records for Incline and Strict Curl.

  • George Labelle moves into the 65-59 class and set new records for Overhead Bar Squat and 1 Hand Clean & Jerk.

  • Ricker breaks master rep weight class bench on bodyweight and knock's out Jake's trap bar record.

Some photos will be added so check back in a couple weeks!

    Previous Contest in 2004:
Feb 7th, 2004: MDSA MN State Meet
    March 13th, 2004: 2004 OLSA Worlds.

Many records were broke at the Worlds mostly thanks to Gray Grahn and new OLSA competitor Cory Martinson. Grahn shattered his Jerk B/Neck record by 30lbs! He also moved his 1 Hand Deadlift up to 320lbs, 3rd place all-time any-class for OLSA! Martinson did a great 265 lbs in this event and he's never trained it. He teamed up with Grahn to move up the 2-Man Press record to 305. His best event of the day was the Bench Reps Wt Class getting 20 reps at 165. Chuck Ball moved up his 1 Arm DB CL&PR to 85 lbs and made a couple good attempts at other lifts but came up short. Jake set another master record with a 1 Hand Cl & Jerk of 120. Mike Ricker came short all day long until he got a record 1 Arm DB Cheat Curl 120 x 8.

2004 Mega Meet - June 26th: David Langfellow made an appearance after some injury time off. For those that may not remember David is an excellent lifter. David is now 35 years old and in the sub-master division. He weighed in at 236.5 and competed in the 240 class. He just missed a 625 Deadlift. Injuries prevent him from squatting heavy anymore unfortunately. He should be good for that and more by the next meet. He also tried the Hack Deadlift for the first time in his life and no surprise did quite well. He set a submaster record @ 475 lbs.

Brenda Langfellow also competed as in the 125 division. Strength runs in this family as she set a big incline bench record for both open and submaster divisions with a 110 lb lift. We hope to see more of them in future meets.

2004 OLSA Record Breakers - October 30th - in conjunction with MDSA Night of the Living Deadlift and MDSA State Meet. OLSA lift attempts will be limited to RECORD BREAKING attempts ONLY! Held at Jake's Gym.

    2004 OLSA Nationals - November 6th - held at Jake's Gym.

  • Welcome to the Odd Lift Strength Association, or OLSA for short. Please read all of the information on the flyers very carefully. Baby Powder will not be allowed at all!! A 2 pound travel allowance will be allowed for all weight classes, but keep in mind that the higher place trophies and the records will go to the lighter lifter. ID cards will be checked at all OLSA meets. You must be at least 13 to enter the OLSA--those under 18 need parents signature. I do not keep state records for OLSA--everyone is against everyone. The OLSA Newsletter comes out about every 3 months and the cost is $15.00. The membership is good for one year from the time that you join. You may lift as a guest lifter to set records, but will not get the newsletter then. If your mailing address changes, it is your responsibility to let me know. The Newsletter has OLSA upcoming contests, meet results, trivia, feats of strength throughout history, etc. If you know anyone who is strong (claims to be strong, please tell them about the OLSA--Professional lifters are especially invited to compete in the OLSA--.if they dare!! If anyone has a special feat they would like to show us, they must sign a waiver and allow us to weigh there weight(s) if we doubt what they are telling us--We've met too many bullshitters and won't put up with any lying, cheating, etc.

There are 25 different lifts in the OLSA--some of the records may seem unbelievable, but we do have decent documentation on all lifts--ANYONE who is willing to sign a waiver can attempt to break an OLSA record. A lot of the OLSA contests are held in conjunction with the MDSA (Minn-Dak Strength Association), or the MDSA RAW (no major support gear allowed!!). There are 4 attempts allowed in the OLSA. We will go over the rules before each lift, so ask your questions then. Everyone who enters an OLSA meet will get a trophy unless they bomb, uses obscene language (there may be small children and offended adults in the audience), throws temper tantrums, lifts as a guest lifter, or breaks any of the OLSA rules. Guest lifters must be attempting to break or establish an OLSA record.
